The Gospel According to Judas
Fr Francis Moloney SDB and Jeffrey Archer will be taking part in a public lecture and debate on Wednesday 21st March 2007. The subject is 'The Gospel According to Judas'. They have worked together on this book, which is written in the style of a first-century gospel, as if from the hand of a son of Judas Iscariot.
The lecture and debate, chaired by the Rev Dr Dermot Power, will take place in the Cathedral Hall of Westminster Cathedral at 6.30pm. For directions, see the Westminster Cathedral web site (Visitor Information).
There is no admission charge, but seats are limited and if you wish to attend you are asked to email Louise of Colman Getty, the company promoting the event.
Fr Frank Moloney SDB is now the Provincial in charge of the Salesians in Australia. He is also an internationally respected scripture scholar and a prolific author. Just type Moloney Scripture into Google and see how many books you find! When Jeffrey Archer was looking for someone to help him with the background to this fictional work, Fr Moloney's name was suggested by Cardinal Martini, who was once his teacher at the Pontifical Biblical Institute.
In the words of the publicity material:
"The project was as bold as it was simple. Archer would write a story for twenty-first century readers, while Moloney would ensure that the result would be credible to a first-century Christian or Jew."
